You might think of Jaguar as a maker of saloons and sports cars first and foremost, but these days it’s actually SUVs that dominate both its line-up and also its sales figures. Starting with the F-Pace in 2016, Jaguar introduced the more affordable and compact E-Pace in 2017. Acting as a sportier and more stylish alternative to models like the Mercedes GLA, the E-Pace is also practical and gets you loads of equipment for your money. There are a range of petrol and diesel engines to choose from, with the P300e plug-in hybrid appealing to those looking for something that’s more affordable to run.

About Jaguar E-PACE

Following on from the success of the brilliant F-Pace SUV, Jaguar introduced the smaller E-Pace in 2017. Competing against the likes of the Audi Q3 and Mercedes GLA, this new model was quickly praised for its sporty driving experience and stylish looks.

A mid-life update in 2021 also enhanced the driving experience further, while Jaguar kitted the E-Pace out with its much-improved Pivi Pro infotainment system. More recently, Jaguar has introduced the P300e plug-in hybrid, a powertrain that’s proving particularly popular in this class.

Why buy a used E-PACE?

As Jaguar’s baby SUV, there’s a lot to like about the E-Pace if you want a high-riding model, but still that’s relatively compact and easy to live with. It’s no surprise that it’s now one of the brand’s top-selling models, with its eye-catching design proving a big draw. Its roofline almost offers a ‘coupe’-like design, while the sharp LED lights at the front and rear and neat proportions make it a very smart-looking choice. The majority of versions for sale are also ‘R-Dynamic’ cars that get a raft of design changes to give it an even sportier profile.

The E-Pace is also a great choice if you want an SUV that you can enjoy driving. It’s particularly good after the 2021 update, as the model was noticeably lighter than its predecessor. That said, all E-Paces, regardless of age, feel agile for a model of this size, and are among the best in this class to drive.

The wide range of powertrains are another big draw to the E-Pace. That’s because there’s the option of both front- and four-wheel-drive models, along with petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrids. We’re particular fans of the latter, as with its 34-mile electric range, it offers scope for some very low running costs – Jaguar claims up to 141mpg, with 44g/km CO2 emissions. With a combined 305bhp on tap, too, it’s also the quickest E-Pace in the range, with 0-60mph taking just 6.1 seconds.

Though the E-Pace is unsurprisingly accompanied by steep used prices, you do get a lot of equipment for your money. The latest cars, for example, all come with heated, memory and electric front seats, leather upholstery and an 11.4-inch touchscreen to name just a few features.

E-PACE updates

Here’s a small history of the E-Pace, which was first introduced in 2017.

When Jaguar unveiled the E-Pace it brought style and sportiness to this increasingly popular market. First deliveries took place at the end of the year.
Updates for 2018 included the addition of a 200bhp petrol engine and greater connected services.
In 2019, a Chequered Flag limited edition was launched, bringing a range of unique styling elements.
For 2021, the E-Pace received a mid-life update. Key changes included the addition of a plug-in hybrid and 11.4-inch touchscreen. Despite its light design changes, it’s actually underpinned by a new platform.

Which used E-PACE should I buy?

Jaguar offers six grades on the E-Pace, with highlights as follows.

What should I look for when buying a used E-PACE?

Some owners complained of badly-fitted panels and paint defects. Be aware of cars with particularly big panel gaps.
The rear suspension can creak, so listen out for any noises from the back of a car on a test drive.
Earlier cars had quite a glitchy infotainment system, so it’s worth making sure everything works as it should.
